Technology

At White Smiles Family Dental, we know that the latest in dental technology not only makes diagnosis and treatment easier on our patients, but it enables us to provide more precise dentistry. This is why we have invested in some of the latest technology in modern dentistry.

We aim to provide high-quality dentistry to our patients on a consistent basis at our Springfield, MO dental practice.

Here are some of the ways we have incorporated modern technology into the care we provide.

Digital X-Rays

Your dentist’s visual examination of your teeth and gums is valuable, but only so much can be seen with the naked eye. This is where digital x-rays come in.

With digital x-rays, we can look beyond what is visible with the naked eye. In fact, without the assistance of x-rays, dental professionals can only view about 60 percent of your tooth structure and none of the supporting bone.

If you are worried about the safety of x-rays, don’t be. The dental and periodontal issues that can be missed because you opted out of an x-ray are far worse than the negligible amount of radiation associated with digital radiographs.

Digital x-rays can easily be shared with insurance companies or specialists, so there are less likely to be delays if you need treatment.

Panoramic X-Rays

Panoramic x-rays give your dentist yet another way to analyze your oral health. This type of x-ray creates a flat image of your mouth, so your teeth, jaws, temporomandibular joints, and nasal and sinus cavities are all revealed in one shot.

Intraoral Camera

The intraoral camera takes your dentist beyond what can be seen with a digital radiograph, revealing the most hidden nooks and crannies of your mouth.

About the size of a dental mirror, this tiny camera can explore every part of your mouth, revealing even the tiniest spots of decay or fracture. Patients can also view problem areas in real time, which aids in understanding the need for recommended treatments.

Nitrous Oxide

We realize that dental anxiety is a genuine problem for many of our patients. While we believe that our comfortable atmosphere and friendly staff go a long way toward alleviating some anxiety, some patients might need more help. This is where nitrous oxide comes in.

Breathed in through a mask similar to the way oxygen is administered, nitrous oxide is a mild sedative that gives patients a feeling of euphoria. It is fast-acting, so its effects are felt almost immediately. It leaves the body the same way, returning patients to a normal state as soon as they stop breathing it in. Patients who use nitrous during their appointments are able to drive themselves back to home or work safely.
