Are dental x-rays safe for children?

At White Smiles Family Dental, your child’s health and safety are our top priority. We want you to feel entirely comfortable with the dental care your child receives in our Springfield dental office, so we welcome any questions you have about your child’s treatments.

One question parents often have is about the safety of dental x-rays. In our dental office, Dr. Preston White and Dr. Shannon White provide safe digital x-rays. The new digital x-rays we use in our office are safer than the old-fashioned x-rays of the past. Your child receives less radiation from a dental x-ray than he or she would receive from playing outside in the sun for several minutes.

Why Are X-Rays Important?

We take x-rays of your mouth and teeth to help you and your dentist make informed decisions about your dental care. With an x-ray, your dentist gets an inside view of your oral health that wouldn’t be possible with the naked eye.

This inside view allows your dentist to spot dental problems early in development when they’re easier to treat. With early treatment, you can help prevent the need for invasive dental procedures, saving a lot of money and time spent in the dental chair down the line.
